About PFLAG PALATINE

There has been the need for a GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender) support group here in the NW suburbs for quite some time.  In August of 2003, we decided to "Just Do It".  We held an organizational meeting on Friday, September 5, 2003 with 12 people in attendance..  PFLAG Palatine held our first meeting on Monday, September 22, 2003 -- with Mary Lou Wallner as our guest speaker.

PFLAG Palatine participates in the  PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois -- which is made up of representatives from the various PFLAG chapters in the greater Chicago area.   The council coordinates chapter memberships, orders PFLAG booklets and supplies, and provides supporting resources for new and existing chapters.  The Chicago Council also publishes the Open Doors -- a monthly newsletter for Chicago area PFLAG chapters.  By joining any PFLAG chapter in the Chicago area -- you will receive a copy of the Open Doors newsletter.  Simply print and mail the membership form along with payment to the address on the application. See the PFLAG Chicago web site for the membership form www.pflagchicago.com.

PFLAG's Vision and Mission

Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) is a national non-profit organization with over 200,000 members and supporters and almost 500 affiliates in the United States. This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced and serviced by the PFLAG national office, located in Washington, DC, the national Board of Directors and 14 Regional Directors.

Our Vision

We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.

Our Mission

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
